The Ikorodu Magistrate Court has ordered a DNA test to be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The order was issued on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga following an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who is seeking to confirm Liam’s paternity. Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent in the case.

In his filing, Joseph Aloba stressed that there has been lingering controversy surrounding the child’s paternity and insisted that the matter must be settled once and for all.

“There remains uncertainty regarding the paternity of Master Liam Aloba and given the sensitivity of the matter, it is imperative that the paternity be conclusively settled,” he noted in his application.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate Sonuga ordered that two DNA tests be conducted in accredited hospitals, one in Nigeria and another outside the country.

“Both parties or their representatives must be present when the samples are collected,” the court ruled.

The case has been adjourned until November 11, 2025, for continuation of proceedings.

Mohbad, a rising star in Nigeria’s music industry, passed away in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, sparking nationwide debates, protests, and ongoing investigations into the cause of his death.

The DNA request has been one of the most heated topics since his passing, with Mohbad’s father publicly demanding verification of his grandson’s paternity, while his widow and supporters have consistently resisted such calls.

This court ruling now makes the DNA test legally binding.
