A shocking story has surfaced online about a young Nigerian man whose wife allegedly abandoned him and their 5-month-old baby after leaving for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
The revelation was shared by a social media user, @sledge_baba, who narrated how the woman left home for the compulsory one-year NYSC scheme but never returned.
According to the post, the mother handed over her 5-month-old baby to her husband before heading off for service. What was supposed to be just one year of NYSC has now turned into two years of silence, with the woman completely cutting ties with her husband and child.
The distressed man reportedly made several attempts to reach her and even contacted her family, but their response shocked him. They simply advised him to “move on” and not worry about her.
In a follow-up response, @sledge_baba revealed that multiple people claimed to have seen the woman in Abuja, living well and going about her life—raising more questions about why she abandoned her home.
The bizarre story has since gone viral, sparking debates on marital responsibilities, parenting, and the challenges faced by young couples. Some sympathized with the man for being forced into single parenthood, while others criticized the woman for neglecting her child.
