A heartbreaking tragedy struck North Carolina, U.S., after four little sisters — all between the ages of 2 and 7 — lost their lives in a house fire in the early hours of Saturday, August 30.
The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. at a home on North Colony Road, Columbus County Fire Marshal Shannon Blackman confirmed. Sadly, no adults were in the house when the fire started.
Two other 12-year-old girls, one of them also a sister to the victims, managed to escape and quickly called 911. Emergency teams from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and Chadbourn Rescue arrived within seven minutes, but the house was already engulfed in flames.
Sheriff Bill Rogers explained in a statement:
“Due to the severity of the fire, it was not possible to make a safe entry into the home.”
The community has been left in shock and mourning. Two residents, Ansley Hayes and B. Tyler Grainger, have since created a GoFundMe to support the grieving family.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the tragic loss of Kendall, Kalani, Josie, and Sophia, who passed away in a house fire,” they wrote.
The girls’ mother, identified as Reagan Powers, is now surrounded by community members offering support. Many described the four sisters as bright, loving children whose presence brought joy to everyone around them.
“These beautiful souls brought immense joy and love to their family and everyone who was blessed to know them,” the fundraiser read.
This tragedy has not only devastated one family but has also deeply shaken the entire community.
