In a deeply shocking case that has left residents horrified, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested 24-year-old Somtochukwu Nwafor over the brutal murder and mutilation of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.
According to police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect confessed during interrogation to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, identified as Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who remains at large. Somtochukwu revealed that after the nurse was lured to Elobisi’s house under the guise of providing medical care, she was killed—and Somtochukwu was later summoned to help clean up the blood.
Even more chilling, the suspect disclosed how they harvested and sold the victim’s body parts to several native doctors in the region.
Acting swiftly on this confession, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided the shrine of one native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike, in the early hours of July 29, 2025. There, they discovered suspected human body parts hidden inside cellophane bags.
The prime suspect, Elobisi, is currently on the run. Police say a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him, along with any other collaborators and buyers of the body parts.
Condemning the gruesome crime, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the act as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He further urged anyone with useful information to assist in the investigation, reassuring the public that all informants’ identities will be kept strictly confidential.
The tragic killing has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for justice for the victim—a nurse whose dedication to saving lives was met with unimaginable betrayal and violence.
