A Nigerian medical doctor, Obianma Onyia, has stirred controversy online after criticizing men who insist on splitting bills equally with their wives.
The 53-year-old mother of three, whose children are also medical doctors, shared her opinion in a fiery Facebook post on Monday, September 8, 2025.
In her words:
“Come o! Ndi 50:50 men, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Why are you a man if you cannot pay most of the bills????”
She argued that women already contribute significantly to the home by cooking, cleaning, managing the household, giving birth, and raising children, in addition to catering to their husbands’ needs.
“The answer is simple. That beautiful woman – even if she doesn’t have her own career or earn her own money – IS THE TABLE! She makes the house a home, caters to your emotional and physical needs, raises your children, and still helps out financially when necessary. And then you still want her to drop half of her salary? You wan kpai pesin pikin?”
She further mocked the men, saying:
“The question is and should always be: WHAT DO MEN BRING TO THE TABLE? Your third leg??? Commot for road, jare.”
Dr. Onyia’s post has since gone viral, sparking heated debates on gender roles, financial responsibilities, and what truly defines partnership in modern Nigerian marriages.
