Nigerian actor and comedian Ime Umoh, popularly known as Okon of Lagos, has weighed in on the newly formed opposition coalition that recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The National Opposition Coalition Group, as reported by PREMIUM TIMES, features heavyweight politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Gabriel Suswam. Former Senate President David Mark has been named the coalition’s interim national chairman, while ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola serves as interim national secretary.
Although former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has yet to formally join the ADC, he has signalled his support for the coalition’s broader mission to challenge the ruling party.
Reacting on Instagram, Okon of Lagos described the coalition as a “union of strange political bedfellows” — an alliance of sidelined politicians, disillusioned Buharists, and northern elites who feel marginalised under President Tinubu’s government.
“The coalition is a synthesis of out-of-favour politicians, disgruntled Buharists and seemingly marginalised politically entitled northerners. Their circumstantial unity is to one end: the ouster from office, a common enemy which is Mr President,” he noted.
In a rather colourful metaphor, the comedian argued that the coalition must recognise Peter Obi as the figure capable of giving them real political force.
“In all they do, they should realise they are like a very big and attractive manhood, and Peter Obi is their erection,” he quipped.
“A big manhood is useless without the capacity to be erect! Meanwhile, this is not about manhood and erections!”
Peter Obi, for his part, explained that his involvement with the coalition aims to “build bridges to dismantle the entrenched structures of poverty and insecurity” in Nigeria, driven by what he called a deep commitment to national progress.
The coalition, Obi added, ultimately seeks to deliver competent, capable, and compassionate leadership to Nigerians ahead of the crucial 2027 polls.
