The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched an accelerated review of its 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) operations in response to widespread criticism over score irregularities. Following the release of UTME results last Friday, JAMB received numerous complaints from candidates, prompting the board to bring forward its annual examination review.
The comprehensive assessment will cover registration procedures, test conduct, and result release. JAMB assured the public that all candidates are given fair opportunities to sit for the exam and any technical issues are promptly addressed. To ensure transparency and accuracy, the board is collaborating with technology experts, officials from Nigerian tertiary institutions, and members of an African educational research body.
Over 8,000 candidates have submitted complaints, citing malfunctions that may have impacted their performance. While JAMB maintains that the published results reflect actual performance levels, statistics show that over 78% of candidates scored below the 200 mark out of a possible 400, sparking debates about examination standards and reliability.
