Nwobu Slams Wike: “Leave PDP if You Back Tinubu”

Former Anambra PDP Chairman Ndubuisi Nwobu has launched a scathing critique against FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, labeling him a “coward” for remaining in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while openly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government. In a fiery interview in Awka, Nwobu demanded Wike formalize his allegiance to the APC or stop undermining the PDP.

Wike’s “Political Cowardice” Exposed

Nwobu minced no words, stating, “If Wike were man enough, he’d obtain an APC membership card. His refusal to defect while backing Tinubu reeks of hypocrisy. You can’t claim loyalty to one party while advancing another’s agenda—it’s a blatant lack of political integrity.”

The remarks spotlight Wike’s controversial role as a PDP stalwart who campaigned for Tinubu during the 2023 elections, fueling tensions within the opposition party.

Wike’s Shadow Over PDP: A Legacy of Control

Nwobu delved into Wike’s past dominance in the PDP, particularly during his tenure as Rivers State Governor:

- Kingmaker Influence: Wike allegedly handpicked loyalists for key PDP roles, including the National Working Committee (NWC).

- Financial Leverage: Accusations surfaced that Wike “buys loyalty” through financial inducements, shielding him from disciplinary action.

- Strategic Entrenchment: By positioning allies like former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, Wike maintained indirect control over party decisions.

“He masqueraded as a party savior but was planting seeds for personal gain,” Nwobu asserted.

PDP’s Cleanup: Ousting Wike’s Loyalists

Nwobu revealed ongoing efforts to dismantle Wike’s influence:

1. National Secretary Removed: Samuel Anyanwu’s exit marks a critical step in reclaiming the party’s autonomy.

2. Upcoming NEC Meeting: May’s National Executive Council meeting aims to ratify reforms and reset leadership.

3. National Convention: A new leadership team is expected post-convention, ending the “Wike era” of PDP politics.

“With fresh leadership, we’ll erase the toxic imprint Wike left on our party,” Nwobu declared.

Implications for PDP’s Future

The clash underscores deeper fractures within the PDP:

- Credibility Crisis: Wike’s dual allegiance risks alienating members and voters.

- Rebuilding Trust: Successfully removing Wike’s influence could revive the party’s image ahead of 2027 elections.

- APC’s Gain:.Wike’s defection might strengthen APC’s hold but weaken PDP’s opposition momentum.

Conclusion: A Turning Point for PDP?

As the PDP gears up for its NEC meeting and convention, Nwobu’s challenge to Wike signals a pivotal moment. Will Wike switch camps, or will the PDP purge his influence to regain unity? The outcome could reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
