The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has issued an order restraining the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) from enforcing the controversial tinted glass permit policy for vehicle owners nationwide.
The interim order was made on Friday, as the court began hearing Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, filed by Barrister John Aikpokpo-Martins against the IGP and the Police Force.
Aikpokpo-Martins, a legal practitioner, approached the court to challenge the legality of the recently reintroduced enforcement of tinted glass permits.
In its ruling, the court directed the Police to maintain the status quo and “respect judicial processes pending further proceedings in the matter.”
Speaking after the ruling, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Kunle Edun, who led the petitioner’s legal team, hailed the decision as “a significant move to uphold the rule of law.”
The development comes after months of public backlash following the Police’s decision in April 2025 to resume the issuance of tinted glass permits through the Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP).
