Justice Serifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court has convicted and sentenced Andrew Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, to death by hanging for the rape and murder of 22-year-old fashion designer Bamise Ayanwola. The judgment was delivered on May 2, 2025, at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

The court ruled that the prosecution, led by the Lagos State Government, successfully proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the heinous crime. The presiding judge stated, “That for the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy upon you.”

The case dates back to February 26, 2022, when Bamise Ayanwola was brutally raped and murdered on the Lekki-Ajah Conservation expressway. Andrew Ominikoron was subsequently arraigned on four counts of alleged rape, conspiracy, and murder.

The investigation into Bamise's disappearance began after her family reported her missing. The police launched a probe, which led to the arrest of Andrew Ominikoron. During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that linked the defendant to the crime.

The verdict brings closure to Bamise's family and friends, who had been seeking justice for her tragic death.
