Over 300 people have been displaced and about 30 houses set ablaze after gunmen launched fresh attacks on seven communities in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Though no lives were reported lost, the attacks left devastating impacts as farmers in the affected areas lost barns and farmlands to the destruction.
This latest incident comes barely six days after four herders were killed and one other injured in Fili village, Doemak district, also in Qua’an Pan LGA. The herders had alleged that the victims were attacked while grazing their animals.
Confirming the development, the spokesman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Council, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, said the council chairman, Christopher Manship, had already visited the affected communities, which include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom in Doemak District.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Sylvanus said the chairman convened a stakeholders’ meeting and urged residents to remain vigilant.
“The Executive Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, Christopher Manship, lamented over the attacks and urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and development associations to work together for a permanent solution,” the statement read.
He added that security agencies have been mobilized to the affected areas to restore law and order while the council continues efforts to return peace and normalcy.
The chairman also stressed the need for people in the communities to remain peaceful and to coexist regardless of their ethnic or religious differences.
