The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna.
Ruth reportedly passed away weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident involving one of Dangote Group’s trucks near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
In a statement released shortly after her passing, the company described the loss as heartbreaking and emphasized that it had been providing support to Ruth and her family since the accident.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State,” the statement read.
The conglomerate explained that both its officials and insurance partners had been covering Ruth’s financial and medical bills, while also making arrangements to fly her abroad for advanced treatment.
“Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today,” the company disclosed.
The Dangote Group extended its condolences to the family, reiterating its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion.
“At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest,” the statement concluded.
