A victim of the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack has shared a remarkable encounter with one of his abductors, Abubakar, at a mosque in Kaduna State. Comrade M Muhammad recounted their hour-long discussion, where Abubakar revealed he had repented and was now working as an Okada rider. Muhammad forgave Abubakar, citing his own survival and the fact that he had already forgiven his captors.
However, Muhammad expressed his disappointment with the government's response to the incident. He accused the government of negligence, stating that they had been notified of a possible attack but failed to take action. Muhammad also criticized the government's lack of support after their release, forcing them to bear the cost of therapy sessions to cope with the trauma.
The train attack on March 28, 2022, resulted in hundreds being kidnapped, killed, or injured. Muhammad spent 196 days in captivity and struggled with trauma, seeking treatment at a psychiatric hospital without government assistance.
