Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is expected back in the National Assembly on September 23 after serving a six-month suspension.

Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, confirmed that the senator, who is currently on vacation in London, will rejoin her colleagues when plenary resumes.

“She’s ready to resume her term. She’s in London at the moment, but everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption,” Giwa told PUNCH.

He also noted that there are no signs of resistance from Senate leadership.

“We have been told that even the leadership of the Senate is ready to welcome her. So there is no obstacle at all,” he said.

Natasha was suspended on March 6 following allegations of insubordination after rejecting a reassignment of her seat during plenary. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions recommended the disciplinary measure, which stripped her of salaries, aides, and other privileges.

The lawmaker, however, had insisted that her suspension was politically motivated, linking it to her petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment—claims dismissed by the Senate.

Her earlier attempt to return in July was blocked by security operatives, sparking protests outside the National Assembly.

With her suspension now over, her legal team says ongoing court cases will not affect her return.

“Everything will be resolved. Even the court cases will become like an academic exercise,” Giwa assured.
